Wal-Mart scholarships for teams
Youth soccer, hockey and golf teams are invited to request scholarships from their local Wal-Mart store to participate in summer Wal-Mart Cup tournaments at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn. The main requirement: the teams need to bring plastic bags into their Wal-Mart store for recycling. Teams are encouraged to collect plastic bags from family, friends and neighbors. The number of bags required – which ranges from 50-300 – depends on the sport and tournament registration fee. The team may then bring the bags to their local Wal-Mart for recycling, and in turn, receive a coupon for a scholarship (while quantities remain). The coupon is redeemed when the team registers for the tournament.
To request a Wal-Mart team scholarship and determine the number of bags required, teams may send a coach or team member’s parent to their local Wal-Mart store to talk with a store manager. Scholarship quantities are limited and will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.
For more information about the Wal-Mart Cup tournaments, visit www.nscsports.org.
