With the arrival of May, the Forest Lake synchronized swimming team plunges into its final stretch of the season, as sections are only two weeks away.
Warming up for the main events of sections and state, the Rangers were in Grand Rapids for a routines meet on April 18, and hosted Columbia Heights on Tuesday, April 22.
Against Columbia Heights, Forest Lake won the varsity competition 34-13, while the junior varsity lost 29-1.
“Although they had varsity swimmers swimming jayvee, I instead chose to have my varsity girls swim some exhibition routines to gain experience,” head coach Laura Davison said.
The extended team performed the routine Bollywood (Heidi Merrier, Julianna Dahlager, Camille Gross, Laura Oberg-Hauser, Dianna Schave, Aayla Anderson, McKinzie Chelberg and Charity Riesgraf), taking first place and drawing positive comments from those that matter.
“Judges noted that they have shown much improvement since our meet with Stillwater. Our long team routine also would have beat Columbia Heights routine if they would have been able to swim for points,” Davison shared.
At the rescheduled meet at Grand Rapids/Greenway, Forest Lake took top honors with 35 points to 11 for Greenway and five for Bloomington.
“The girls had a great time on our road trip, but more importantly gained experience swimming their routines,” Davison said.
“The two routines from Greenway that took first over us (a solo and a trio), I am confident that we will be able to take at the section meet.
“Overall our girls improved greatly since Stillwater and we are looking forward to Osseo/Maple Grove on Thursday (May 1).”
