The suspect in Monday’s bank robbery in Forest Lake is now linked to a bank robbery last week in St. Paul, Chief of Police Clark Quiring said.
Mainstreet Bank, 1650 S. Lake St., (Highway 61 south) was robbed at 10:26 a.m. Monday by a man who walked up to a teller window and handed the teller a note demanding cash and indicating that he had a gun, Quiring said.
The chief said information gathered by FBI indicates the suspect in the Forest Lake robbery may be the same man who robbed the Como Northtown Community Credit Union on N. Lexington Parkway in St. Paul last Friday.
Quiring said the suspect is described as a black male 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-6 inches tall, in his late teens to early 20s with facial hair, and a dark complexion. He was wearing a red T-shirt under a black hoodie and wore a black bandana under a black baseball cap, the chief said. His face was not covered, the chief said.
The man fled the bank on foot to the north where it is likely he had a vehicle waiting, the chief said. He escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash, Quiring said.
Forest Lake police officers with help from other neighboring police agencies, converged on the bank and began searching the area for the suspect, Quiring said.
Canine units from the Washington and Chisago county sheriff’s departments were called in to help search the area in the event the suspect was on foot.
The police chief could not say for certain if the man actually had a weapon.
