A plan that could result in general budget cuts of $2 million for the 2008-2009 school year has been authorized in ISD 831. The school board on Dec. 6 voted to adopt a resolution authorizing the administration to make recommendations for reductions in positions, programs and services for the next school year. The district expects to receive an inflationary increase of 1 percent in state aid next school year. When coupled with estimates of an enrollment decline, the administration has said some $2 million may need to be cut. The decision last week gives the administration the green light to develop a plan that will review staffing patterns and other expenditures. Lynn Steenblock, superintendent, said he hopes to have the budget reduction model in place next month for a follow-up report to the school board.
