When it comes to highway funding dollars, someone’s loss will be North Branch’s gain, or so it seems. Eighth District Congressman James Oberstar announced that more than $11 million in unused transportation funds have been redirected to four projects in northeast Minnesota, including the TH-95 bridge project over I-35 in North Branch. North Branch will receive some $7.1 million for the design and construction of a new bridge on TH-95. “The 2005 transportation law was a $286 billion piece of legislation that authorized thousands of transportation projects across the nation; it was bound to need a few adjustments,” Oberstar said. “In some cases, the money could not be used by the programs that were authorized to receive it, so I was able to redirect some of those funds to other worthy Minnesota projects.” Sixth District Congresswoman Michele Bachmann was also in support of the action, said Stephen Miller, her communications director.
