Forest Lake’s 12th Street intersection with W. Broadway Ave. (CR-2) has been troublesome in the past, but quiet of  late. The quiet ended on Sunday when a Forest Lake woman was hurt in a two-car crash, the first serious accident at the intersection in some time, Chief of Police Clark Quiring said.

A man and woman from Luck, WI were traveling west on Broadway and attempting to turn south on 12th St. when their vehicle collided with a vehicle traveling east on Broadway.

The driver and a passenger in the vehicle from Wisconsin did not require medical treatment.

A 63-year-old Forest Lake woman in the eastbound vehicle was taken by ambulance to Fairview Lakes Medical Center in Wyoming with unknown injuries, the chief said.

2 arrests

A man from Grand Rapids was arrested on Saturday after he was found sleeping in a car parked at a convenience store in Forest Lake.

Police in Forest Lake were called to Lakes BP, 1107 Scandia Trail N. at 11 a.m. to investigate a report of a man sleeping in a vehicle.

Timothy W. Mallick, 20, was held on a warrant for forged checks in St. Louis County. He told police his car broke down and he was waiting for a ride.

Police here also confiscated a number of checks and a debit card that Mallick could not account for, Quiring said.

In a separate crime, police here arrested a Braham man on a felony charge of possession of stolen property and driving under the influence.

Police recovered a stolen car in the 1200 block on South Shore Drive early Friday, May 3. Police arrested Devon L. Vanderschaegen, 21, and booked him in the county jail on probable cause for the two alleged crimes.

A second man stopped with the suspect was not charged, police said.

Other reports

In other police news:

Authorities continue to receive reports of illegal burning. Officers were called to two residential locations during the past week issuing one ticket for an unattended fire.

Quiring reminds area residents that no open burning is allowed until the statewide burning ban is lifted. That includes any kind of recreational fire, the chief said.

The chief also asked for the public’s help in clamping down on door-to-door sales efforts that are being conducted without the required city peddler’s license.

Two tickets were issued on May 2 to peddlers who were selling cleaning supplies on Fenston Ave. N. without a city license or permit, he said.

The chief encouraged residents to ask door-to-door sales people to produce the city license when they come calling. If the sales person does not appear to have a license, he said police should be called at 651-464-5877.
