The 2008 public fund drive for American Legion Post 225’s Fourth of July celebration is nearing the halfway mark. Three more events this month are expected to help the fund grow, says Krista Richter, parade chair for Post 225.
To date, Richter reports,, the fund drive has surpassed the $16,000 total. To fund this summer’s Independence Day parade and fireworks, Post 225 plans to raise $35,000.
Events planned in May include a car show and sock hop at VFW Post 4210 on Saturday, May 17 and 4th of July best ball golf tournament at Castlewood Golf Course on Saturday, May 31.
Post 4210, 556 SW 12th St., is planning a full day of fun on May 17.
The car show, which is open to all makes and models and all years, will take place from 2-6 p.m. The entry fee is $5 per car.
Vehicles are still needed for the car show. For more information about the show, call Keith Hegstrom at 651-464-6827.
A “Best in Show” trophy will be awarded.
Post 4210 will also offer car hop service.
The public is invited to attend and there is no admission.
Starting at 7 p.m. is the VFW Post 4210 Sock Hop. Admission cost is $10 per person. Food and tap beer will be served.
The sock hop will measure the music of Changing Times from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. The evening will include contests and prize drawings, including tickets to Minnesota Twins games.
All proceeds on May 17 will go to the American Legion parade and fireworks fund.
The golf outing on May 31 starts at 10 a.m. Cost is $75 per person with the charge covering the golf, a cart, lunch and lots of fun.
Hole sponsorship at $50 each and promotional items for the outing are also needed.
