The way the Forest Lake boys golf team is playing, there are plenty of reasons for other schools to be concerned.

Whether the Rangers are in Brainerd or Blaine, or taking on the Suburban East Conference, Forest Lake has enjoyed a string of firsts, and had different golfers take the lead or provide the first three lines of support.

On May 1, the boys were in Brainerd at the Preserve Golf Club and took first place with a shot total of 312 in an 18-team field.

Both Peter Follese and Jeremy Tetrault came in at 77, which put them into a tie for seventh place overall. Paul Moberg slid up from junior varsity and joined Douger Jeans at 79 to complete the Rangers scoring.

Park of Cottage Grove and Rogers were one stroke back with matching 313s.

Two days prior, it was a regular SEC meet at Prestwick Golf Club, where Forest Lake tied Park for the top spot, and had host Woodbury one shot off the pace.

Unlike in Brainerd, where John Young and Andrew Kelly were unable to crack the list of four that score, these two ended up with the Rangers’ lowest totals, as Young went for a 75 and Kelly turned in a 77.

Follese, Jeans and Ryan Hanson all shot 78, while Tetrault ended the afternoon with an 80.

The winning week started on Monday, April 28, with the boys in Blaine, basking in a 30-degree wind chill.

“The kids didn’t get to warm up or practice because of frost,” head coach John Buck shared.

“We overcame the cold and won the 20-team  Blaine TPC for the second year in a row.”

The Rangers (322) were seven strokes better than Maple Grove’s 329, and they were paced by Young’s 79, putting him into third-place.

In what looks to becoming fairly standard, Forest Lake then had three players clumped together, right behind their teammate.

This time it was Jeans, Follese and Kelly, who all  shot 81s, while Tetrault closed with an 82, and Hanson shot 89.

Heading into Monday’s meet at North Oaks, the Rangers had a three point lead in the Suburban East, and that will get tested during a week of non-stop golf.

The boys were in White Beak Lake on Tuesday, and then host at Forest Hills on Thursday. The week wraps up with the team in Detroit Lakes and Fargo on Friday and Saturday.
