Forest Lake Montessori students will make a difference in the lives of children with cancer, including one of their own, Andrew Barrows, by hosting an Alex’s Lemonade Stand on Thursday, May 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Messiah Lutheran Church.
The stand will be held in honor of Andrew, and has already set a goal of raising at least $1,500. Those in attendance will honor all children battling cancer with a balloon release at the conclusion of the event.
All proceeds will benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) emerged from the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). At the age of 4, Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer.
Since Alex held that first stand, the Foundation bearing her name has evolved into a national fund raising movement, complete with thousands of volunteers across the country carrying on her legacy of hope.
To date, Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 charity, has raised more than $19 million towards fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 80 research projects nationally.
This summer marks the 5th Annual Lemonade Days on June 6, 7 and 8 when volunteers across the country host lemonade stands simultaneously.
Messiah Lutheran Church is located at 807 Highway 97, Forest Lake.
