Baseball’s Fan Appreciation Night

This Saturday’s Forest Lake Rangers baseball game at the Ballpark at Schumacher Field is Fan Appreciation Night as well as Alumni Night. The Rangers take on Roseville at 7 p.m. on Saturday, where there will be plenty of food, giveaways and great Suburban East Conference baseball.  

Phelps signs with Jamestown

Brandon Phelps has signed a Dakota Athletic Conference Letter of Intent to play basketball for Jamestown College (N.D.) next year. Phelps averaged eight points and four rebounds for the Rangers last season, and was named All-Conference honorable mention. Son of Andy and Lori Phelps, Brandon carries a 3.1 GPA and plans to pursue a Pre-Med degree.

Traveling baseball workout day 

The workout session and team selection for 15-year-old traveling baseball will be Monday, May 19 at the Century Junior High fields. The workout session runs from 3-5 p.m. If you have any questions, call Dale Hager at 651-433-5288.

YSB Golf early deadline, May 20

The sixth annual YSB Golf Tournament benefiting the Lakes Area Youth Service Bureau (YSB) will be held Friday, June 20, at Castlewood Golf Course (aka “The Rock”), beginning with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. The tournament will feature a hole-in-one contest courtesy of sponsor Whitaker Buick Pontiac GMC.

All local golfers are invited to play in the fundraising tournament, which is a four-person scramble format. Top prizes include $400 cash to the first-place team, $200 cash to the second-place team, and six additional $25 prizes for course events. In addition, a raffle will be held for a variety of prizes, including a membership at The Rock, full-week pass tickets to the 3M Championship PGA golf tournament in Blaine, Tanners Brook golf rounds, Twin tickets and many other great prizes.

Early-bird registration cost is $75 per person or $300 per four-person team if registered by May 20, or $80 per person or $320 per team after that date. The cost includes nine holes of golf, two power carts and dinner at Stella’s on 97 following the event. Separate dinner tickets are available for additional guests for $20 each.

Only one player on each team may have a handicap of five or under and teams must have a combined team handicap of over 24 (nine-hole handicap). Mulligans (one per golfer) and Eagles (one per team) will be available for purchase.

Registration deadlines are May 20 for the early-bird discount and June 6 for all other registrations. Edlund MIAC track AOW

Gustavus Adolphus College senior Laura Edlund (FLHS ‘04) has been named the MIAC Track Athlete of the Week by the conference track and field coaches. Edlund placed first in the 5000 meters at the Hamline University Meet of the UnSaintly, with a time of 18:06.29. This time currently ranks first in the MIAC this spring heading into the MIAC Track and Field Championships, which were held last Friday and Saturday at Hamline University.

Fourth of July fundraiser

The Forest Lake American Legion is hosting a Fourth of July Parade and Fireworks fundraiser by having a best ball golf tournament at Castlewood (The Rock). The tourney is Saturday, May 31 at 10 a.m. The cost is $75 per golfer, which includes golf, cart, lunch and plenty of fun.

Beaches open May 24

Washington County Park beaches open Saturday, May 24, at the Lake Elmo Park Reserve, Square Lake Park, Pt. Douglas Park and soon thereafter at the new, soon-to-be opened Big Marine Park Reserve. Lifeguards will be on duty from noon to 8 p.m., June 7 through August 17. Beach hours during July are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. during August. FLAAA meets on 2nd Tuesday

OSI 5K Fun Run/Walk, June 14

OSI Physical Therapy is sponsoring and conducting the 5K Fun Run/Walk as part of the Forest Lake Chamber of Commerce’s Fun in the Forest on Saturday, June 14. The 5K begins at 8 a.m.

FLAFA's monthly meeting

The Forest Lake Fastpitch Association (FLAFA) holds its monthly meeting on the third Thursday of each month at Stella's  on 97 at 7 p.m. The next meeting is Thursday, June 19.
