The Forest Lake girls track and field team kept it simple last week, with only the Section 5AAA True Team competition to worry about on Tuesday, May 6, where the Rangers took fourth place.
“It was ugly weather but our effort was awesome,” head coach Eric Kaluza said. “We were third for most of the meet, but fell to fourth at the end.”
Stillwater was first with 918 points, followed closely by White Bear Lake at 911.5, before there was a drop off with Centennial in third (764) and Forest Lake (715.5).
For Kaluza, some of his personal highlights came from athletes like Gina Lange, who clipped 14 seconds off her personal best time in the mile to cross the finish line in seventh place (5:32.52).
“Erin Daninger broke through in the disc and is looking like 90 feet will be real possibility,” Kaluza said.
“The high jump crew (Christy Newell, Mary Blake and Audrey Mills), with the 100-meter dash (Rae Moen, Adri Acosta and Emily Zamzow) and 200-meter dashers (Kristie Miller, Rae Moen and Shannon Nelson) all having excellent performances.”
The team heads to Park on Thursday in order to stay sharp for next week’s Suburban East Conference meet, which has Kaluza thinking positive thoughts.
“We’re making strides towards Stillwater and White Bear Lake but we’re not quite there yet. We have a few weeks to go and anything can happen.”
