There was little time for rest last week for the Forest Lake boys golf team, as the Rangers were on the course every day but Wednesday.
On Monday, May 5, head coach John Buck’s squad came in second place with a total score of 304, putting them four strokes behind Stillwater.
Jeremy Tetrault (right) led the way with 74, with Peter Follese finishing two shots back at 76.
Doug Jeans and Paul Moberg were right behind with identical 77s, while Joe Pelton and John Young turned in matching 79s.
At White Bear Lake Yacht Club on May 6, Forest Lake tied with the host Bears for second place, this time going for 312.
Andrew Kelly and Follese started it off for the Rangers as each shot 76, with Jeans and Ryan Hanson picking up 80s, Moberg an 81 and Tetrault an 83.
Following the one day of rest, the boys hosted at Forest Hills on Thursday, where they showed how much they like playing on their home turf.
The Rangers took first place with a nice round 300, which put them 13 shots ahead of Woodbury’s 313.
Tetrault leaped back up to the top of the leader board, getting the medalist honors with a 73.
Moberg’s steady play brought him a 74, as Kelly (76), Young (77), Follese (78) and Jeans (79) filled out the rest of the team’s scores.
The jam packed week finished with a flurry and in a flurry, during Forest Lake’s trip to Detroit Lakes and Fargo.
Day One at Detroit Lakes was on Friday, where Buck watched his crew turn in a season-low 295, giving them a one stroke lead over Detroit Lakes High School.
“Andrew Kelly posted the first sub par round of the year by shooting two under 69,” Buck pointed out.
After Kelly it was Young at 72, Follese at 75, and both Tetrault and Max Kelly at 79.
“On Day Two in the 38 degree temps, and wind and rain, we shot 302 and lost to Detroit Lakes by one shot,” Buck said of the 597-596 final scores.
This time it was Tetrault and Young who would assume control. Tetrault fired the low round of the day, at 72, and then came Young at 74.
With Andrew Kelly shooting 77, both Kelly and Young would tie for third place overall (146).
Jeans shot 79, Follese 83 and Max Kelly 89.
“In Fargo on Day One Joe Pelton shot 74 and Paul Moberg shot 75,” Buck shared.
Nick Carey followed at 80, Shane Sampair shot 81, Ryan Hanson shot 82 and Tyler Carpenter shot 86.
“We shot 310 and finished fifth out of 13 teams,” Buck said of the Fargo experience. “The second day was postponed due to wind and snow.”
