A pesky snowstorm in the middle of the day dealt a blow to the 60th Annual Faith Lutheran Church Lutefisk & Meatball Dinner on Tuesday, Dec. 4 but many of the fish lovers braved weather conditions to enjoy the tasty morsels.
Event chairs Don and Jan Drolson said that the storm cut the attendance by about 100.
Just over 600 diners were fed, the event co-chairs reported.
In addition to the dinner, Women of the Evangelical Church of America (WELCA) also offered baked items and crafts for sale.
A highlight of the evening saw longtime Men of Faith member Millard Olson turn in his serving apron and potato ladle after working every one of the 60 dinners.
He ceremonially served his last scoop of potatoes to Faith Lutheran Church senior pastor Phil Peterson.
A few years ago, Olson hung up his choir robe after singing in the church choir for many years.
Don Drolson gave a pulpit talk during Sunday’s church services to thank all of the volunteers who helped make the 60th dinner a success.
He reported the following serving statistics: 300 pounds of meatballs, 500 pounds of lutefisk, 360 pounds of potatoes, 70 pounds of herring, 400 rounds of lefse and 40 loaves of rye bread.
Entertainment was also provided at the dinner by the duo of Milt Jorgenson and Carl Peikert and by pianists Sandy Anderberg and Bill Munson.
