A new chapter is being written for Forest Lake Area Schools. On Nov. 6, voters approved an operating levy providing an additional $825 per pupil in funding to the district. This funding will allow the district to address many critical funding needs and put an end the annual budget reductions that we’ve been seeing in recent years.Â
Months ago, the school board approved a list of spending priorities that would direct the use of new funding provided if the levy was successful. This list included things like reducing class sizes, restoring classroom instructional resources, enhancing supports for struggling students and programming for gifted students, retaining diverse education opportunities like music and language, attracting and retaining the best teachers and staff and establishing financial stability for the school district.
