A messy issue is making the rounds at City Hall, and its outcome will significantly impact a local business that is marking its 50th year in the community. The city’s agreement with Forest Lake Sanitation expires July 30, and for the first time since at least 1989 – if not ever – the city has requested proposals from multiple refuse and recycling providers.

Forest Lake’s park system is large, but are its amenities well-known to the community? What amount of trail linkage is needed, both in the city and on a regional level? Should the city put its resources into fully maintaining each park, or should it invest in a few signature ones? These and plenty more questions were on the table as members of the City Council, Planning Commission and Park Board met with city staff and landscape architects Feb. 18.

Two city of Forest Lake positions were filled as the City Council signed off on recommendations at its Feb. 24 meeting. Chad Payment will fill the city’s first building official and firefighter position, while Dan Undem is the choice for the recently modified deputy city clerk position. Both men will report on Monday, March 24.
