At the annual geography bee on Tuesday, Jan. 14, Scandia Elementary students from grades 4, 5 and 6 answered questions from National Geographic. Sam Larsen repeated as school champion, with Kaitlyn Atkin as runner-up. Larsen will now complete a written exam; if he scores high enough, he will compete in the state National Geographic Bee. Five boxes of good food, fun games, warm gloves and handy phone cards are heading to U.S. military troops overseas, thanks to the Scandia Elementary Peace Team. Children’s author David LaRochelle visited Scandia Elementary on Tuesday, Nov. 26.  LaRochelle, author of “The Best Pet Ever,” “The Haunted Hamburger” and “A Christmas Guest,” is a winner in the Minnesota Book Awards competition. He lives in White Bear Lake.
