The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has reached an agreement with Tiller Corporation, a sand mining and processing company headquartered in Maple Grove, to resolve air-quality violations at the company’s sand-processing facility in North Branch.

The Scandia council began its work on the Zavoral Mine permit application Tuesday, Jan. 15 by voting unanimously to use the 2020 comprehensive plan, which was in place when the mine application was first submitted in 2008.

The Scandia city council voted 4 to 1 to accepted the Zavoral Mine environmental impact statement as adequate. Tiller Corporation can now complete its application for a conditional use permit to reopen the mine.
