Zavoral Mine

The Scandia council approved operating permits for three sand and gravel mines on Feb. 18. The Zavoral mine reopened in 2013 after a lengthy environmental review, with opposition from the St. Croix River Association, the National Park Service and residents. Monitoring was required for noise, traffic, and air and water quality.

Trees and other vegetation have been cleared from an area to be mined by Tiller Corporation at the Zavoral Mine in Scandia, located east of the intersection of St. Croix Trail (TH-95) and Scandia Trail (TH-97).
