Theresa Gieschen, a teacher in the Forest Lake school district, is one of 128 candidates for 2014 Minnesota Teacher of the Year.
Gieschen is a math teacher at the Area Learning Center.
This year’s program will be the 50th year of celebrating excellence in teaching in Minnesota. Candidates include pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade teachers, from public or private schools.
The winner will be announced Sunday, May 4. Before then, a 25-member panel of community leaders will name a group of semifinalists and finalists.
Organized by the Education Minnesota teachers’ union, the program receives support from The Harvard Club of Minnesota Foundation, McDonald’s Restaurants of Minnesota, DoubleTree by Hilton, Pearson Education, The SMARTer Kids Foundation, TruStone Financial and United Educators Credit Union.
