The Minnesota Department of Health and Minnesota Department of Agriculture, along with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and several other states are investigating a multi-state outbreak of Salmonella Carrau infections linked to consumption of pre-cut melon supplied by Caito Foods, LLC, of Indianapolis.

Three Minnesota cases have been identified as part of this outbreak. Two cases are children who live in the same household, and one case is an adult. All three became ill in March. None were hospitalized and all have recovered. All three Minnesota cases reported eating pre-cut cantaloupe from one Trader Joe’s store. Overall, 93 cases of Salmonella Carrau infection have been identified in nine states, including Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin. The investigation is ongoing and more cases may be detected.
